Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Paneer Curry

Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Paneer Curry by Alison's AllspiceI have a love hate relationship with curry.  On one hand, I absolutely love it.  It’s versatile, healthy and easy to make.  However, I don’t like most curry powders I have tried, taking curry from love to hate.  Instead, I make my own curry powder.  It requires stocking lots of spices to make my own blend.  The plus side is that I can vary the amount of each spice every time I make a batch so that the flavors vary each time.  No one curry dish will be the same as the next in my kitchen!  Check out my slow cooker sweet potato paneer curry where I tried using more whole spices! Five Spice Shrimp Tacos with Rhubarb Ginger Sauce

Five Spice Shrimp Tacos with Rhubarb Ginger Sauce by Alison's AllspiceHave you guys tried chinese 5-spice powder yet?  It’s been a popular up-and-coming spice for a while now, and I’m just now getting on board.  Chinese five-spice is a blend of Szechwan pepper, star anise, cinnamon, cloves, and fennel.  It has a wonderfully warming characteristic that pairs perfectly with other Asian flavors, such as ginger, and is not spicy.  My five spice shrimp tacos with rhubarb ginger sauce are an amazing twist between Asian and Mexican cuisines! Asian Cabbage Baked Egg Rolls with Tempeh

Asian Cabbage Baked Egg Rolls with Tempeh by Alison's AllspiceI’m not really a side dish person.  I love to cook.  It’s a great release at the end of the day to come home and find my rhythm in the kitchen.  However, I find it most enjoyable when there are fewer pieces of the puzzle to keep track of.  Side dishes don’t fit that routine well, therefore I tend to make and eat a single thing every night.  These Asian cabbage baked egg rolls with tempeh fit that theme perfectly.   Continue reading

Spiced Pumpkin Lentil Soup

spiced pumpkin lentil soupToday we are going to talk about soup.  I despised soup as a young adult.  Afterall, it came out of a can.  When I started to make my own homemade soups, I realized that canned soup did not compare at all in flavor and texture.  Homemade soup is a really easy meal to make as well.  I enjoy eating soups over fall and winter the most because they help to warm you up.  This spiced pumpkin lentil soup is especially warming and filling.
