Simply Marinated Tempeh for Salads Sandwiches and Wraps

Simply Marinated Tempeh for Salads Sandwiches and Wraps by Alison's AllspiceThis simply marinated tempeh can be used in all sorts of ways.  I like to use it for salads, sandwiches and wraps.  The marinade is made from fridge and pantry staples so it is easy to whip up when you are planning on the fly.

Cubes are best for salads, but slices are best for sandwiches.  For wraps, you could go either way, but I prefer the slices. Continue reading

Teriyaki Tempeh Tacos with Radish Carrot Slaw

Teriyaki Tempeh Tacos with Radish Carrot Slaw by Alison's AllspiceRadish season has come and gone in my spring garden.  While I had fresh radishes, I made these teriyaki tempeh tacos with radish carrot slaw so many times.  Find some radishes to try them out for yourself!

Radish is one of those ingredients that I never quite know what to do with.  Sure you can slice them and add them to salads, but there are only so many of those salads I can eat before they get boring. Continue reading

This is not my first wrap on the blog with tempeh.  (Check out this Korean BBQ Wrap recipe.) Tempeh is a great plant-based protein source that takes well to many flavors, adding to the variations on wraps that you can make! Continue reading

Korean BBQ Tempeh Wraps

Korean BBQ Tempeh Wraps by Alison's AllspiceHave you tried Korean BBQ, or gochujang sauce yet? In these Korean BBQ tempeh wraps, the spicy gochujang is balanced by cool cucumber and creamy mayo.

Gochujang sauce is spicy, which is one reason I love it.  If you (or a member of your family) don’t like spicy, try using regular BBQ sauce in the skillet and personalize each wrap with spicy Korean or sweet American BBQ sauce. Continue reading

Pineapple Sriracha Tempeh Tacos

Pineapple Sriracha Tempeh Tacos by Alison's AllspiceOne of my favorite tempeh recipes is my gyro tempeh tacos.  I used it as inspiration when I made these pineapple sriracha tempeh tacos.  They are fast, fresh, and perfect for summer!

The pineapple sriracha combo has a great sweet and spicy complex.  I flavored the tempeh very modestly, just so that it wouldn’t be bland, and added some crunchy cabbage as filler. Continue reading

Baked Buffalo Egg Rolls with Tempeh by Alison's AllspiceI love the crunchy texture of egg roll wrappers, and have recently been researching new filling ideas.  Buffalo chicken egg rolls are popular, so naturally I had to re-do them vegetarian style!  Meet baked buffalo egg rolls with tempeh!

Vegan Biscuits and Gravy with Tempeh Sausage

Vegan Biscuits and Gravy by Alison's AllspiceIn southern Illinois, we have a vegetarian cafe that makes a mean biscuits and gravy.  My husband adores their dish, so naturally, I had to replicate it.  Luckily, he like my vegan biscuits and gravy better!

For my biscuits and gravy, I make a homemade tempeh sausage.  This is really the star of the dish, and where all the flavor comes from.  If you’re not vegan, or don’t care for meat substitutes, you still need to check out those biscuits! Continue reading

Tempeh Gyro Tacos with Cucumber Salsa

Tempeh Gyro Tacos with Cucumber Salsa by Alison's AllspiceIt’s official, I’m obsessed with all things gyro!  I absolutely love the explosion of flavors, especially the tzatziki.  I remember the first gyro I ever had at a sandwich shop in college.  The sandwich maker asked if I wanted to add the tzatziki, and I didn’t know what it was at the time.  He explained that it’s a creamy sauce that you will either love or hate.  Well,  I loved it, needless to say.  My husband loves tacos, so these tempeh gyro tacos with cucumber salsa were a success! Asian Cabbage Baked Egg Rolls with Tempeh

Asian Cabbage Baked Egg Rolls with Tempeh by Alison's AllspiceI’m not really a side dish person.  I love to cook.  It’s a great release at the end of the day to come home and find my rhythm in the kitchen.  However, I find it most enjoyable when there are fewer pieces of the puzzle to keep track of.  Side dishes don’t fit that routine well, therefore I tend to make and eat a single thing every night.  These Asian cabbage baked egg rolls with tempeh fit that theme perfectly.   Continue reading

Tempeh Gyros with Cucumber Tzatziki

Tempeh Gyros with TzatzikiWhen I first started trying meatless meals, I loved tofu, and disliked tempeh.  There are lots of folks out there that don’t like tofu, but I wasn’t never one of them.  Tempeh has taken some time for me to figure out how to prepare properly.  Tempeh is a fermented soybean cake that has a unique flavor, unlike tofu which must be flavored.    The nutty flavor of tempeh works well in these tempeh gyros with cucumber tzatziki.  This recipes has completely changed my mind on tempeh!
