Peach Yogurt Smoothie

Peach Yogurt Smoothie by Alison's AllspiceThe other day I was looking for a fast easy lunch so I whipped up this peach yogurt smoothie. It was so easy and so filling, this one is going into my regular rotation!

Lunches for me generally include leftovers, or something simple to make.  When I don’t plan in advance, its great to have back pocket recipes like this one to save the day.

Peach Yogurt Smoothie by Alison's Allspice Peach Yogurt Smoothie by Alison's Allspice Peach Yogurt Smoothie by Alison's AllspiceThe peach orchards in my area are having a good year and there are lots of tree-ripened, juicy peaches all around.  Including on my kitchen counter.

I dreamed up this idea because I saw the fresh peaches sit there, and I knew I had a tub of yogurt that needed used up.  One cup of non-fat greek yogurt has 25 grams of protein for only 150 calories.  That paired with a large peach, I was stuffed by the end of lunch!

Ingredients in the Peach Yogurt Smoothie recipe:

Fresh vs frozen peaches.  If you use fresh, the consistency of the smoothie is like a very thick drinkable yogurt, delicious in it’s own accord.  If you use frozen peaches, the consistency will be more like a milk shake, frosty and thick.

Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds filling protein and a creamy texture to the smoothie.  It could be replaced with frozen bananas and protein powder in a pinch.  Flavored yogurts can be used, but you likely won’t need the honey due to added sugars in those yogurts.

Honey: The honey helps to tame the tangy yogurt and bring out more of the peach flavor.  It can be omitted, but the flavor of the peaches will not be as strong.

Milk: Use only enough milk as necessary to get the blender to work.

Optional Ice: The ice cubes help to make the texture of the smoothie thick and creamy when you use fresh peaches, but you don’t want to use many because as they melt they will water down the flavor.  If you want a very thick texture for your smoothie, use the frozen peaches instead of fresh and skip the ice cubes.

I don’t think canned peaches would work well because they are cooked and much softer. My preference is frozen peaches because they make the smoothie very thick and creamy. If you do try it, use plenty of ice (one cup or more) or drain and freeze the canned peaches first.
