Ginger Miso Dressing

Ginger Miso Dressing by Alison's AllspiceHave you hopped on board of the miso train yet?  Miso is such a flavorful condiment that can be used in so many ways.  I use it in sauces and dressing for the most part, like this ginger miso dressing.

What is Miso?  It is a fermented soy bean paste that is salty and a little bit tangy.  It ads huge amounts of umami flavor to any dish you add it to.  It comes in many varieties like white miso, yellow miso, and red miso.

Ginger Miso Dressing by Alison's Allspice Ginger Miso Dressing by Alison's AllspiceThe darker the color of miso, the stronger the flavor.  Light colored miso is used in more sublte applications while red miso is used in stronger, bolder applications.

In this recipe, I used a type of red miso called brown rice miso.  As you can see in the image above it is dark in color, and lends a strong umami flavor to this dressing!

Uses for the Ginger Miso Dressing recipe:

  1. Use is as a sauce over grain bowls, noodles bowls and buddah bowls.  I used mine over a noodle bowl when I took the photos for this post.
  2. Use it as a salad dressing.  Miso dressing pairs very well with earthy greens like spinach, in my opinion.
  3. Use it in a stir fry.  The miso will lose it’s probiotic properties when cooked, but still lends great flavors to a pan of veggies and tofu!
  4. Use it as a glaze over baked salmon or other protein of choice.

This is AMAZING. I made it -as is, and also did one where I added a clove of garlic and they were both delicious.
